Set-Up For Index Key

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE

The set-up index key (part #46250) is used in the articulator for positional orientation of the edentulous lower model, according to the Bonwill Triangle. Prior to beginning the mounting procedure, remove the incisal needle (not the incisal pin) for better access to the area.

1. Remove the mounting plate from the upper arm of the articulator, and replace it with the index holder.

NOTE: Do not remove the magnetic mounting plate from Artex articulators fitted with magnetic "Splitex" plates. Instead, use the set-up index key with the "Splitex" magnetic adapter plate to mount it directly to the magnetic plate on the upper arm of the articulator.

2. Divide the distance between the upper and lower mucolabial folds in half to determine the setting of the index on the symphesis fork. (for example, a distance of 38 mm ÷ 2 = 19 mm). Or, individually measure the distance from the symphesis point to the lip-line marked on the wax wall, and set it on the index key.

3. Vertically and horizontally center the models, and mark the retromolar pads of the lower model with a pencil. Then support the symphesis fork and rest the corners of the horizontal slide on the retromolar pads, in the center.

4. Hold the slide in position using one or two elastic bands.

5. Turn the articulator upside down. Apply plaster to the lower mounting plate and sink the model into the plaster.

NOTE: When using the "Splitex" magnetic system, place a plastic counter plate and a retention disk onto the magnetic plate on the lower arm of the articulator before applying the plaster.
