An Authentic® Glossary of Terms

As you begin to make choices about which Authentic® kit is right for you or need to know how to identify refill items, this glossary of Authentic® units and items should be helpful.


Ceramic Powders

The Authentic® layering ceramics, enamels, glazes, stains and modifiers are packaged in small screw top bottles and jars.

Opaques

The Authentic® Paste Opaques are available in a 4 gm glass jar.

Liquids

The Authentic® Buildup and Glazing Liquids are in drip top squeezable poly bottles.

Staining Technique

With this technique, precise inlays, onlays and full form or partial crowns can be achieved easily. The restorations are waxed on a conventional die, invested with MICROSTAR HS, MICROSTAR HS-PC™ or equivalent investment.

After preheating the mold to 850° Celsius the Authentic® ingots will be pressed in a 20-30 minute cycle in a pressing furnace, depending on the size invested ring.

After the Authentic® pressed restorations been devested, and cleaned by sandblasting, they can be idealized with the Authentic® Staining Shades.

Layering Technique

This technique applies when high esthetics and color-difficult reconstruction are required.

For this purpose, reduced forms or copings will be pressed that can be built up with Authentic ceramic using the layering technique.

The Authentic® ceramic assortment includes all the needed dentins, opaque dentins, incisals, transparents and modifiers.

Coloration

The Authentic® ceramic color palette is based on and compatible with the Vita Classic Shade System™ and includes a wide range of additional color modifiers and ceramic powers that extend esthetic control through the application of ceramics which vary in degrees of translucency and opacity.

The “A1” through “D4” shade designations represent the shades of the Vita Color Management System® and are registered marks of Vita Zahnfabrik GmbH.

Indications

For single tooth restorations with deep chamfer or shoulder preparations. All cementation should only be done with a bonding technique using any of the available composite or compomere luting agents, with expansion >1%.

For non-vital teeth, a nonmetallic post and/or build up system is recommended.
Small colored defects or build ups can also be masked and blocked out by an opaque luting agent.

Contra Indications

Patients with parafunctions like bruxism or with deep subgingival margins or tooth preps without defined chamfers or shoulders. Non-bonded cementation.
